Approved and registered users who are over 18 years old with official South African IDs can sign up and apply for registration to bid on an existing game auction with the WildlifePro app.
Participation in any game auction complies with South African, local and international laws regarding the legal and ethical buying and selling of game on auction. Permits are required from the South African Department of Nature Conservation (local branch) before animals can be transported. Other regulations, terms and conditions apply.
Specifically, all auctions for which bidding is available on WildlifePro fall under and are conducted as stated under the legal regulations of THE CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT, 2008 (ACT NO. 68 OF 2008) of the Republic of South Africa. Sections 30 and 33 are of specific relevance to the auctions for which bidding is available through this WildlifePro app.
The auctioneer can on their own decide to allow or reject any registration application or bid to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and laws, which can vary depending on species, region and geographical area.
The app acts as a bidding platform to indicate buying intent and sets a price per lot, but the actual real buying and selling transaction takes place outside the app in the offline physical world. All transactions need to comply with all regulations and laws as published on the app and elsewhere (printed catalogues, websites and the like) because specific terms and conditions exist per individual auction. These terms and conditions are accepted on the app or separately in writing at the auction venue and this acceptance, along with bids and other information is stored in the WildlifePro database and physically when applicable.
Additional offline documentation is required to conclude any transaction regarding the buying and selling of game in the physical world outside the app.
In addition to app bidding, registered users are also able to bid on the same auction via voice telephone, text message or live in person on the bidding floor by showing a physical official registered bidder card.
This app therefore provides another avenue for bidding on existing auctions, in addition to auction floor, telephone or text bidding on that same auction.
Wildlife auctions happen under the auspices of a variety of regulatory bodies, including South African Nature Conservation, Wildlife Ranching South Africa, Consumer Protection Act no 68, 2008, FICA and other legislation. Auction bidding with the WildlifePro app comply with all the applicable legislation and regulation, in the same way as floor bidding with a bidder card, telephone bidding and text bidding also comply.
Animals are thus not physically affected by auction bidding conducted via the WildlifePro app or otherwise. (While bidding can take place via the WildlifePro app for an auction that already exists, the app is not a requirement for the auction to exist.)
Happy app bidding!
